Cut and Paste our text if it's easier... and THANK YOU for advocating for the Park!
During Coronavirus in New York City, we are more aware than ever how valuable equal access to open public park space is - and how we have so little of it on our east side Downtown. Underneath the Brooklyn Bridge are some very small areas that could benefit our communities greatly if they were opened to the public immediately. Both the basketball courts and the north side of the Small Banks have been closed since 2010 for DOT work on the Bridge, but both of these areas are not being actively utilized for construction. Please open them up so that the 2500 kids at the Murry Bergtraum campus across the street have a place to play basketball; so the community has a place to sit and enjoy lunch or a conversation outdoors under trees. The communities of Chinatown, Lower East Side, South Street Seaport and Financial District have historically been under-resourced when it comes to public park space. The Brooklyn Bridge separates our communities, and we need a place where we can actually meet together. Please reopen these small areas for the health of our communities.
Please support Brooklyn Bridge Manhattan, which envisions unlocking the potential of the forgotten spaces under the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, creating a new type of urban Community Park that nurtures connection, curiosity, wonder, and resilience. The Bridge is a sleeping giant - a Landmark recognized the world over – yet lands in a fenced-off, dark, underutilized parking lot. It is an urban wasteland that divides our communities. We need it to be a neighborhood nexus connecting and strengthening our residents, businesses and neighborhoods by creating public spaces that inspire, engage and delight all ages. We are working together to build a Park for our communities, by our communities - and we need your help. Please commit to releasing the public land for public use. Please help fund the park. Please support our communities.
Let our Mayor know that the Iconic Brooklyn Bridge deserves a better Manhattan Landing than a private parking lot.
Let our Borough President know we desperately need public recreation space on the East Side of Downtown Manhattan.
Let our City Council Member know that we need less parking and more Parks! Connect our communities, don't keep them divided.
Vote for our project! Let our Elected Officials know why this project matters to you, and why their support and funding are important.
